Be it breakfast, brunch, dinner or lunch, Birdy’s Kitchen & Bar caters to any meal throughout the day!

This cafe recently opened its doors at Upper Thomson, along the same stretch as older establishments Habitat and Pacamara Boutique Coffee Roasters.

You won’t miss its prominent green canvas canopy from across the street, making it stand out from the other minimalistic white-themed cafes.

Birdy’s has two separate menus for the morning and evening. From their breakfast menu, we had the Breakfast Sanga –  thick fat bacon slices, fried egg, a huge slab of Emmental cheese, beetroot pickles stuffed between a brioche.

The brioche was both buttery and pillowy, yet slightly crispy around the edges.

Most people wouldn’t expect a burger on a breakfast menu, but this baby was worth every bite. Plus, the owners wanted to offer something unique instead of the usual breakfast fares.

Another breakfast item was the Duck Confit Hash. This dish was made with pimiento peppers, onions, potatoes and came with a side of greens and a perfectly poached egg.

The pimiento peppers gave a nice sweet balance to the dish and we recommend mixing in the poached egg before digging into the dish.

For a more filling option, go for their Truffle Mushroom Pasta. This dish had a unique twist to it, using Calamarata instead of the usual Linguine or Spaghetti that most cafes have.

Plus, it was made with a medley of mushrooms – Porcini, button and black trumpet. This gave the entire dish a multitude of textures. The truffle oil wasn’t overpowering and the pasta was cooked al dente, giving it a nice chewy bite.

From the dinner menu, we tried their slow cooked pork

The pork belly is painstakingly slow cooked overnight, locking in the flavours while not being overly oily as the fats are being burnt off during the process.

The dish also came with duck fat potato – layered potato slices brushed with duck fat. We love how the outside was crispy with a charred taste and the inside soft.

Finally, we tried their highly recommended Beef Ribeye cooked medium rare.

Birdy’s generously uses 300gm Jack’s Creek grass fed ribeye, placed on a bed of wild mushroom fricassee with a dollop of wholegrain mustard on the side. There is an option to add shoestring or truffle parmesan fries as well.

Due to the way the ribeye was plated, customers get the option to first dig into the original taste of the ribeye without any sauce. Then, should they want a new combination, they can dip the slices into the addictive mushroom fricassee.

As the slices were rather thick, it might get a little chewy for some but it was a satisfying meal all the same.

For drinks, Birdy’s serves up a wide range of cocktails, wines and beers!

We recommend their Aperol Spritz (Prosecco, Aperol, Soda, Orange slices), Mimosa (Prosecco, Orange Juice) and Espresso Martini (Vodka, Kahlua, espresso).

Plus, if you use FavePay, you get 10% CASHBACK whenever you dine in!

In all, Birdy’s is a great cafe for all day dining and for any occasion! Be it a date, a chill night with the boys or just a regular meal, this is the place to be at!
